Huge congratulations to our Research Fellow Dr Sang Tran, who is one of the ten Australian Lindau Fellows to be selected to attend the 74th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings to meet with 30 Nobel Laureates and 630 young scientists from 84 countries in Germany in July 2025.

Prof Dao delivered a Keynote talk at the International Conference Bio4Apps2024, held in Toyama, Japan, December 2–4, 2024, .

Prof. Dao was honored to receive the Gold Coast Distinguished Ambassador Award from the Mayor of Gold Coast City for his contributions to promoting the research and tourism of the city.

Prof Dao and Australia's delegates won the bid to host APCOT2028 conference in GoldCoast City. APCOT is a biannual conference of the Asia-Pacific scientific community on advanced sensors, actuators, and micro-nano technology.

Prof Dao served as General Chair: The 27th World Micromachine Summit, QuantumSemiconductor Microtechnologies, held from 26 to 29 May 2024, in Gold Coast,Australia.

Prof Dao delivered an Invited talk at IEEE NEMS, held from 2-5 May, in Kyoto Japan.

Prof Dao gave a Keynote talk at the IEEE/SICE International Symposium on SystemIntegration (SII2024), held from 8-11 January, Halong, Vietnam.

Our proposal on "Development of an intraoral robotic device for enhancing tooth restoration"  has been funded by the Commonwealth Department of Education, Australia.

Our research on “Superior Sensor Network for Harsh Environments” has been fundedby the Foundation for Australia-Japan Studies (FAJS) under the Rio Tinto Australia-Japan Collaboration Project”. The collaborators in this project include the University ofTokyo (Japan), Aichi Institute of Technology (Japan), Eco-Road Hero Pty Ltd (Australia),and TW Riley Pty Ltd (Australia). Our Mechanical Engineering at Griffith University has received the highest possiblerating of 5 (well above the world standard) in recent ERA (Excellence in Research forAustralia) results. Only 8 out of 20 evaluated universities in Australia could achieve thishighest level. This excellent result reflects the high-quality, world-leading research of ouracademic staff, researchers and PhD students, and the vibrant research environments atour School and sister Queensland Micro- and Nanotechnology Centre (QMNC), GriffithUniversity.

Four 2nd year mechanical students represent Griffith to compete at the 31st WarmanDesign and Build and Competition, Sydney, Australia. Griffith team came 9th among 19teams from universities across Australia, New Zealand, and Malaysia. Every year, over2500 mechanical students are challenged by Engineers Australia to provide solutions forunfamiliar problems.

Successful ARC Discovery Project: Prof N.T. Nguyen, Prof W. Li, Dr M. Shiddiky, and DrD. Dao were awarded $473,470for the project “Magnetofluidic sample handling forenhanced point-of-care diagnosis ” for 3 years•

Successful ARC LIEF (Linkage Infrastructure, Equipment and Facilities) Project: Prof N.T.Nguyen, Dr Dao and colleagues from QUT, UQ were awarded $1,136,244 for the project"Xe-plasma dual beam for advanced future materials".

Dr Dao attended the CDIO Fall Meeting in Sunshine Coast, Australia.

Dr Dao and colleagues from Griffith School of Engineering Dr Peter Woodfield, ProfDavid Thiel, Dr Sascha Stegen and Dr Huaizhong Li in partnership with SuperCool AsiaPacific Pty Ltd (Australia) have been awarded an INNOVATIVE MANUFACTURING CRCProject grant for 2-year project "Develop and manufacture a smart electric compressorfor refrigeration and air conditioning on electric vehicles". Total budget: $365,220.

Congrats to Dr Afzaal Qamar on taking the Research Fellow position at ElectricalEngineering & Computer Science (EECS) Department, University of Michigan, USA.

Dr Dao and QMNC colleagues Prof Nam-Trung Nguyen, Prof Sima Dimitrijev and Mr AlanIacopi in partnership with SPT Microtechnologies (USA) have been awarded an ARCLinkage Project grant for 3-year project "Superior Silicon Carbide Nanoscale Sensors(SCANS) for Harsh Environments". Total budget: $563,000.

Dr Dao chaired the "Creative Technology Challenge" Category, in the 3rd AustralianRobotics Challenge 2016. Over 180 primary and high school students from China, Korea,Philippines, Australia had participated in this competition event.

Griffith team participated in the 29th Warman Design and Build Competition, Sydney.Our team finished at 10th place nationwide and came 1st among the participateduniversities from QLD. Congrats to all team members: Hilary, Ryan, Matthew, Tyla andRuby.

Dr Phan's paper, "Nano strain-amplifier: making ultra-sensitive piezoresistance innanowires possible without the need of quantum and surface charge effects'' Appl. Phys.Lett., 2016, was selected as APL Editor's Pick in Vol. 109, No. 13. Congrats to Dr Phan!
